They’ve done it before. They’ve learned something about it through their channels and resources. They have recall from experiences they have had with it over time. What they remember and imagine helps them understand, relate, interact with other people, things, and their environment. Those experiences, they have interpreted and assign meanings based upon representations manufactured in their minds. They form mental models.

Thinking can be your best tool or your worst nightmare. Many years ago, I enrolled myself into a training program/workshop that was quite different from any seminar, workshop, or training I had done before. The training was unique because it was experiential. By that I mean; there were games designed, as well as exercises and communications done individually, in pairs, and in teams. Many lessons I came away with, I never forgot because they were interactive and reflective of my real life’s behavior. This is where I think I lost my mind……

As I think back to my childhood, some of the most beautiful and prolific actors that had ever hit the big screen (at that time) were alive and famous. Their popularity was off the charts. For me, it was the Marilyn Monroe’s, and the Humphrey Bogart’s of the world that I recall the adult generation being enamored with. Even the ones that are not dead most are no longer in the limelight. What about the music we used to listen to? Have you ever reminisced about the songs you heard and what you were doing back then, and who you…

In the men’s bathrooms in the Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, an image of a fly is etched in the bowls just above the drain. The result is cleaner bathrooms due to less spillage. As a matter of fact, the image reduced spillage by 80%. Why did that happen? Because when people see a target they try to hit it. The Entrepreneur’s Vision Ask any entrepreneurs about their product or brand and they could talk for hours about how great their brand and/or product is. As pure visionaries they can elaborate on their vision for the future of their brand and…

Ask randomly one hundred people about their work experience, and chances are forty to fifty of those of those people will tell you they don’t like their jobs, if statistics are correct. With statistics like these in play, it’s no wonder why people have coined phrases like; gloomy Monday, hump day, and thank God it’s Friday. With attitudes like that circulating the workplace, it’s no shocker that it’s a drag for workers to come into the office. Translating this work experience into result factors suggests to me that companies are working at less than peak performance, just by virtue of…

Activity Planning Great office design ideas in and of themselves are just design ideas. Irrespective of what most people want to hear, office design ideas that rock, requires a whole lot of planning. It doesn’t matter if your idea is for an office of one, or one thousand, you must Plan the space to meet the proper fit between the demands of activities and the architectural nature of the space that surrounds them.Office activities take on many different forms and attributes. When you send an email, write a letter, speak, send a text, or sign a phrase, there is always one common thread present. The idea behind all of these avenues of messaging is to communicate a thought or idea. Aside from commonly acknowledged methods of communication, there are non-verbal ones that speak the language as well (sometimes better). A smile may be inviting and a frown may show displeasure. A look can show excitement whereas a lowered head may indicate sadness. Expert’s estimate 93% of all communication isn’t coming out of your mouth. These fundamental truths are real as is…

I once had a friend that owned a tax service company. His office design was an open floor plan whereby clients would walk in and sit at the desk of an advisor to discuss their taxes. Despite repeated recommendations to create a more private environment for visiting clients, he continually refused on the grounds of cost. As time went on, he discovered workers in the office were also commenting about the open floor design even though they were not asked. Clients were being put off by it and then he paid closer attention to their body language. Some were uncomfortable…

Saving money is not done by accident. Finding ways to cut cost is something that almost every American is looking to do. Even people with plenty of money are looking for ways to cut costs. The only problem is that in most cases you get what you pay for. There are few real bargains. I frequently use the expression, the only free cheese is in the mouse trap. This means that if something is cheap there, is usually a good reason why. Furthermore, that reason is not generally good for the consumer. After looking deeper into pricing, you will normally…
